These antique opera glasses were made by the Lemière Company (Lemière Fabt.) of Paris, France. The opera glasses probably date from the late 1890s, and feature black leather over gold-filled brass with gold accents. The case is black Leather with some natural distressing from age. it is lined with purple silk and someone made a bad repair with duct tape on the bottom of the case. Someone also wrote their name in the inside top of the case, but it has the Bumble Bee on the clasp. These opera glasses are a little dinged up, but work perfectly! The lenses are in fantastic shape and the leather on the body of the glasses is in decent condition for the age.
Lemière Fabt. of Paris began producing opera glasses in 1825. Lemière of Paris innovated opera glass manufacture and placed a focusing wheel between the two barrels of a spyglass to join the eyepieces together with a third bridge. This way, the two eye tubes could be adjusted simultaneously, achieving proper 'collimation' of two optical devices for single vision. Basically, this means that you could look through the opera glasses and see one particular thing magnified properly.
These working opera glasses or mini binoculars are perfect for your Steampunk, Edwardian Ball or Turn-of-the-Century costuming needs. Naturally, they are also perfect for taking to the theater, opera or a concert.
They also work perfectly for bird watching or spying on your neighbors with style!
