These small antique opera glasses are a mystery. That's right - mystery glasses! They have no identifying manufacturing marks that we can find. We're guessing that they are made in France and were made in the late 1800s. Despite their rough and ready appearance, these vintage binoculars work perfectly. We grabbed them off of the photography table for some impromptu bird watching, and they were perfect. (And we have a Peregrine Falcon hunting our local songbirds.)
They come in a black leather case which is intact on the outside. The inside is another matter, the formerly pink silk has disintegrated with age. The glasses themselves have some issues. The leather is coming off of them. IT's still there - but you could remove it completely. You could also glue it on the glasses. (We chose not to do that because sometimes people like to make their own repairs.)
The other issue is that the metal around one of the lenses is bent. This doesn't affect the lens at all though. They do work perfectly.
So clean optics, rough appearance. Super Steampunk! Yes, these are perfect for your Steampunk Cosplay or a Western costume, Edwardian Ball, Labyrinth of Jareth or whichever costume party you prefer. Or you could just take them to the local ballpark, outdoor concert, or hey, what about the opera!
