This vintage Zeiss-Ikon Maximar Large Format Camera has a Jena Tessar 105mm f4.5 lens and Compur shutter - body serial number R 78922, lens serial number 1102359. It was made in Germany in 1929.
The camera body is covered in black leather with leather folding bellows and chrome accents. The body has minor scratches on the leather and some minor chunks where it's missing leather, (see photos for details). The shutter appears to work and the bellows have no rips or tears and appear to be lightfast. The lens is clear with no mold or major scratches. We have not tested this camera with film and do not know if everything works perfectly, but appears to be in great shape for its age. This camera is relatively rare.
This camera is a large-format 6.5x9cm plate camera. The bellows has two extension lengths. There is a sort of medium length which extends to about 4 inches beyond the body of this camera and a super long length which is roughly double that. (See photos.) This Zeiss-Ikon Maximar camera also has three viewing/composition options including a wire frame finder, a magnified reflex viewfinder with an attached bubble level, and a ground glass focusing back.
It's difficult to find precise information about this camera because most of the company's records were lost in the Dresden bombing of WWII. These types of cameras were used by professional photographers and members of the press and the Maximar's ground glass focusing capability has high-precision focusing and framing for close-up work and produce a near 1:1 ratio of subject to image. This leads to great detail. You can still purchase film for these cameras somewhere - but we're not sure on those details.
We have a digital copy of the manual for this camera which we'll send to you after your purchase.
This listing is for this camera only. The antique books, and Tan Tan figure are not included.
