Fabriano Unica paper is made of 50% cotton, suitable for all printmaking, drawing and art techniques. This pad of paper contains 20 sheets of 135 lb (250g/m) paper.
We were so excited when this paper arrived. This is exactly what we've been looking for because this paper not only takes letterpress printing, linocut, woodblock, and etching printing, but it's a perfect surface for drawing with charcoal, graphite, pastel and colored pencil. It's 135 lb thickness, makes it perfect for mixed media, including watercolor. This paper is Acid Free and PH Neutral. (Perfect for use with our PH Neutral J. Herbin inks.)
We spoke to our Fabriano company rep, and he assures us that this paper makes gorgeous prints with a high-end inkjet printer. (We'll post our tests when we print them out.) We currently print on other Fabriano papers with astonishing results. (Our printer is a Canon PiXMA iX6820, made for thicker papers and high-end printing.)
Fabriano Unica originates from the many centuries of experience gained by the Fabriano paper mills and collaboration with a group of artists from the Opificio della Rosa, an international centre dedicated to the awareness and spread of traditional and innovative methods of printmaking.
These artists have tested the paper with a host of printing, engraving and other techniques, testing it to its limits. From this cooperation between the people who make paper and the people who use it, a unique product has been created, as its name suggests. Just one perfect substrate for every printing application. The quality and value of Italian made paper is epitomized in Fabriano Unica.
About Fabriano Paper:
It was a long, arduous process that was completed in the second half of the 13th century in Fabriano, a little Italian town of the Marche inland. The reason for this location, which made Fabriano the most important paper production centre of Europe, is very probably linked to the vicinity of Ancona, a port that was particularly open to trade with the Arab world.
The growing ability of the increasingly numerous and qualified artisans in Fabriano allowed them to make a real leap in terms of quality. Three innovations in particular led to the rise of Fabriano as the cradle of modern papermaking.
The Fabriano factory is powered by hydroelectricity and they
Galileo, Michelangelo and Leonardo di Vinci used Fabriano paper for their work.
