Noodler's Medieval Lapis Ahab Fountain Pen

Noodler's Medieval Lapis Ahab Fountain Pen

$25.20 $28.00

This refillable fountain pen is a gorgeous marbled blue color and is made of a celluloid derivative and is technically biodegradable and formed from a “renewable resource.” Noodlers' resin and ebonite can last more than a lifetime – as proven by vintage pens long in existence that were stored well. This American made fountain pen features a steel flexible #6 nib and a slide piston mechanism.

The nib is flexible and has some give which makes creative writing easier. You can get some calligraphic effects from pressing down harder with this pen as well. The Noodler's Ahab Flex Nib Fountain pen is made to resemble a fountain pen from the 1920s. These nibs take a little practice to get used to using and require some adjustment. (Heat can work well.)

The cost of this pen was kept far below the quoted equivalent costs that were 8 to as much as 36 times greater (EU, Japan, Taiwan, US, China). Noodler’s made it with better, more utilitarian materials and designs at low cost for such a high quality fountain pen.

This is a statement from the manufacturer, Noodler's; "We did it with the help of people in: Texas, New York, California, Idaho, Maryland, Massachusetts, and India. The combination of the oldest and largest democracies in the world can increase living standards for all."

This fountain pen measures 6" x 1" x 1". This pen does not come with ink and is fillable via the built-in converter. You need to fill this pen with bottled fountain pen ink. Pair with some Noodler's or J. Herbin fountain pen ink, sold in the ink section of our shop!

We recommend that you flush this pen out with distilled water before use. You should also regularly flush your pen with distilled water when changing ink color.

An additional note on the use of Noodler’s pens…they are made from a celluloid derivative – and as with all celluloid pens one should NEVER use alcohol or cleaners/rinses that contain alcohols with any celluloid containing pens. Celluloid is in fact processed using none other than alcohols…so unless you want to “reverse engineer” your pen chemically…please avoid alcohol and other harsh solvents (acetones, MEK, etc..). Plain old household ammonia (normally just $1/gallon or so) mixed with a few drops of mild liquid dish soap and regular tap water is fine for almost every need for a rinse solution. If using “common water” as a rinse is your choice, remember it contains bleach and should never be mixed with ammonia.
