This lovely little sampler contains five (5) 10ml bottles of scented Fountain Pen/Dip Pen Ink. This Encres Parfumées (Perfumed/Scented Ink) set works wonderfully for glass dip pens and calligraphy fountain pens, as well. What better way to pen your love letters than with scented ink?
These exquisitely charming inks, lightly scented and presented in elegant semi-frosted bottles, are perfect for fountain pens since they are naturally scented and do not contain pigments. J. Herbin scented inks are made from floral water (hydrosols) of rose, orange, lavender, apple and violets.
Known as “Les Subtiles” (The Subtle), each ink matches fragrance and color.
You'll receive one 10ml bottle of:
• Bleu (Blue)/parfum lavande, (Scent, Lavender) /10
• Vert (Green)/parfum pomme, (Scent, Apple) /34
• Amber (Orange) /parfum orange (Scent, Orange) /41
• Rouge (Red) /parfum rose (Scent, Rose) /68
• Violet (Violet/Purple) /parfum violette (Scent, Violet) /77
While we were creating our swatches, we discovered that these inks have brilliant and vibrant colors. (This ink is professional, artist-grade.) The ink dries to a pleasing matte finish. The colors are rich and gorgeous on the page!
We'd recommend buying this ink for the color more than the scent. (And because you can put it in your fountain pen!) We used a dip calligraphy pen with a Copperplate nib and a glass pen with this ink. Both worked beautifully! It also handles nicely with a paintbrush. In general, these are high quality, all-around colored inks.
As for the scents, they are very strong while you're writing/painting with them, but very light once they dry on the page. We were doing our sampler on Fabriano Hot-Pressed watercolor paper. (Available elsewhere in our shop!)
We've filled one of our fountain pens with the orange ink and it flows very nicely from our fine point pen on smooth paper.
We'll try to describe the scents to you; the Lavender is very lightly scented and smells like a fine Lavender soap. The Green Apple smells rich and slightly spicy. It's a great aroma. The Orange is also cinnamon spiced. Imagine orange tea rather than the scent of an actual orange fruit. The Rose ink smells like fine rose water. They've definitely nailed that one! This one is also our favorite color on the page. It's very deep and saturates nicely. The Violet also smells like fine violet water.
The hydrosols used by J. Herbin come from Grasse, France, a Provencal town long associated with the perfume industry, and famous for its floral scents. Fashioned with great care, scented inks are inspired by a tradition that began in Italy in the 19th century. J. Herbin and other manufacturers used to collect different scents from the perfume industry and add them to their inks.
This quality ink set was manufactured by the French company J. Herbin. Founded in 1670, J. Herbin is the oldest manufacturer of writing ink in the world.
