This Calligraphy Ink set includes four 30ml bottles with droppers of Sennelier inks, which are likened to Indian inks.
This set include four (4) 3oml jars of the following colors:
• Cobalt Blue
• Walnut (Brown)
• Sepia (Reddish Brown)
• India Ink (Black)
Made in France to exacting standards, these inks are extremely rich and the colors are vibrant. Sennelier inks are manufactured with shellac gum giving (to each shade), a unique brilliance, brightness and vibration under light. They can be applied with a brush or ink pen and give a satin to brilliant film depending on thickness. They dry rapidly and display a high degree of water resistance, without being indelible.
The Black India (China) ink and Sepia are waterproof, the Cobalt Blue and Walnut are not.
These inks are highly sought after for calligraphy, quill drawings, washes, for textile creations and materials research. They can be protected with a pencil fixative in order to increase their light stability.
Not for use in Fountain Pens! (The shellac will clog your pen.) This ink is perfect for dip pens, calligraphy and ink washes.
We've been drawing and doing calligraphy with dip pens for years. This ink is some of the finest we've ever used. The India Ink is extremely dark and dries to a nice finish. The Walnut has a rich brown color and the Sepia is a true sepia color. The cobalt is perfect for ink washes. Pair this with your Sennelier watercolor paints for ink and watercolor washes. Then line the drawing with the India Ink. (Or start with the India ink and finish with washes, your choice!)
In 1887, Gustave Sennelier, a devoted chemist, established himself as a purveyor of fine-artists’ paints at 3 Quai Voltaire facing the Louvre and steps away from L’ecole des Beaux-Arts.
The Sennelier Products are made with respect to traditions of the past 130 years. The passion of chemistry and colors still guide the descendants of Gustave Sennelier. The traditional workmanship needs very few machines, and the recipes are made with tradition and innovation.
Having thoroughly researched the history and usage of pigments, he developed a distinctive process for manufacturing oil colors, formulating precise methods for mixing tones and for controlling their opacity and transparency. His work was so meticulous, and his eye for color so accurate that artists soon began to regard the Sennelier palette as the ultimate standard of quality.
Sennelier’s expertise in colors and art materials is surpassed only by their passion for them. Sennelier has been a resource for artists since the era of the Impressionists, and that tradition continues today for all customers of the Maison Sennelier.
Sennelier has become the "reference" brand that is today for artists because it has always been able to combine the tradition of old masters with the innovations provided by modern chemistry.
