Theis bronze inkwell set is the very definition of the best in Art Deco Design. Manufactured by Kronheim & Oldenbusch - a New York company that existed from 1895 to 1939, this inkwell was manufactured in the late 1920's or early 1930's.
This vintage inkwell has two square crystal inkwells with differing interior ink reservoir shapes. One of the inkwells has a chip out of the corner of the crystal. The bronze patina is wonderful and untouched by us. (We did clean it - but not with metal cleaner.) The K & O Co. Hallmark is visible on the bottom.
Art Deco is one of our personal favorite design styles. It was popularized worldwide by the Paris Exhibition of 1925. Officially entitled "The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes," this exposition allowed hundreds of designers to display their new cutting-edge Design Moderne.
The term "Art Deco" wasn't used to describe this look until the 1960s, over twenty years after this design style was fashionable. To people at the time, Art Deco was just called "Modern." Art Deco design influenced streamlined industrial design, architecture, kitchen appliances, automobiles, typewriters and found its way onto the desktop with this gorgeous inkwell. Art Deco design can be found in objects made from the 1920's through the early 1940s.
This inkwell set is perfect for any Art Deco collector! It measures 8" x 4.5 " x 2.5". The inkwells would still hold ink.
