This vintage brass /bronze inkwell features a horse's head in the middle with two inkwells and a pen holder. There is no manufacturer's mark on the bottom, but it is marked "GESCHUTZT." Which means the same as "Copyrighted" in German.
We're guessing that this is Austrian in origin. Vienna was famous for it's bronze / metal casting factories in the late part of the nineteenth and early part of the Twentieth Century. This Equestrian Inkwell looks to be from the early part of the Twentieth Century. It's difficult to date it. Would have been previous to 1938, when Hitler invaded Austria. Or it could be from after 1946, when Europe was rebuilding from WWII. T
he design has some Art Deco influences. Austrian inkwells are highly collectible and this one is in fine shape. The original glass inkwell inserts were replaced with plastic at some point in the lifetime of this object.
This inkwell is perfect for horse lovers and Equestrians! It measures 6.5" x 6" x 1.5".
